“I am not doing this to re-establish a career. I didn’t go out [looking for a role], it came to me. I was happy not to be in the makeup trailer. But it got to a point when I thought, ‘Gee, you know, it might be fun to make people laugh again’,” she said.

Peter Dinklage Has George R.R. Martin Write His 'SNL' Monologue - Watch Now!

Gossip Cop below!

Peter Dinklage’s Opening Monologue for ‘Saturday Night Live’

Villanova scorches Oklahoma in record-breaking Final Four win

HOUSTON -- NRG Stadium murmured in recognition. It was really happening. It was like that.

Buddy Hield's first Final Four shot read as a statement of intent: opening possession, an isolation out top, a trademark step-back, a helpless defender, a deep bucket buried. In the first seconds of Saturday's Final Four, Hield was already 1-for-1 with three points. Another classic shooting performance from one of the greatest shotmakers in college hoops history -- having one of the most productive NCAA tournaments ever -- appeared to be well underway.

It was like that -- with a twist.

That opening-minute omen didn't presage another brilliant Hield performance. In retrospect, it was merely a sign that shooting in the notoriously tricky NRG Stadium confines wasn't going to be quite as daunting as advertised.

The proof itself would come not from Oklahoma, but from Villanova en route to a 95-51 win -- the largest margin in national semifinal history.

The Wildcats shot 66.7 percent in the first half Saturday. They were 6-of-11 from 3. They scored 1.45 points per possession against one of the best defensive teams in the country. They finished the first 20 minutes with more points than Butler scored in its entire 2011 national-title game performance -- when NRG Stadium officially became the (very large) place where shooting goes to die.

Villanova had no such issues. For a few minutes early in the second half, the Wildcats looked set to cool off ... only to rip off a somehow-even-more-efficient 53 points in 35 possessions -- one bucket after the other, over and over and over and over.

The omen had worked its twisted dark magic throughout. Early in the second half, Oklahoma tried six shots, and five offensive rebounds, on one possession -- none of them fell.

Six minutes later, Wildcats guard Josh Hart would see his drive closed off at the elbow. He picked up his dribble, pivoted to find a teammate, found every avenue closed off. Oklahoma fans began to scream, hoping to will a turnover. Hart needed to do something, anything. So he wheeled to his left and tossed up a fadeaway prayer.

All net. It was like that.

Later, with three minutes to play, both coaches would empty their benches. NRG Stadium was still murmuring, but there was no anticipation in the air. Only shock.

Hield walked off the court shortly after. He was 1 of 8 from 3.

Villanova Wildcats overwhelm Buddy Hield, Oklahoma Sooners in Final Four blowout

Being underrated no longer will be the case with Hart after Villanova's 95-51 thrashing. Hart scored 23 efficient and tenacious points, but the more important part to note is that he was one of six Wildcats in double figures. Hart had eight rebounds ...

Pratyusha Banerjee's suicide: Rahul Raj Singh quizzed, let off; police rule ...

A day after she allegedly committed suicide, the Mumbai Police took the boyfriend of television actress Pratyusha Banerjee in custody for questioning. He was, however, let off later in the day with investigators almost ruling out foul play.

Rahul Raj Singh, who had been living with Banerjee, had rushed her to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri West at 5 pm on Friday after allegedly finding her hanging from a ceiling fan in their Goregaon home.

He told the police that he had first gone home to meet Banerjee at 1.50 pm and returned at 2.15 pm.

“Singh returned and found the door locked from inside. After several minutes of trying to get the door to open, he went back and fetched a keymaker to force open the door. Singh then asked a passing servant to climb onto the balcony and look in through the window. The servant saw Banerjee hanging from a ceiling fan,” said a senior police officer.

On Saturday afternoon, the police recorded the statements of Singh, his mother, the parents of Banerjee who had taken an early morning flight from Jamshedpur, and a few friends, even as the post-mortem was being conducted at the civic-run Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon West. The investigation is being conducted under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which gives the police power to question individuals while probing a case of suicide.

An officer close to the investigation said Banerjee’s parents had said in their statements that they did not suspect Singh to be responsible for the death. “They did not express any suspicion or claim any foul play. We are treating it as a case of suicide,” the officer said.

Banerjee’s parents reached the hospital at noon and the autopsy began half-an-hour later. According to a statement released by the police on Saturday evening, the procedure was photographed and videographed.

A panel of doctors from the forensic department, the police said, pronounced the preliminary cause as ligature marks on the sides of the neck, that hinted towards asphyxia.

The final cause of death has been reserved and the viscera of the body has been sent to the Kalina forensic science laboratory for an analysis.

The police have also seized two cellphones belonging to Banerjee and Singh from his possession and are attempting to establish who she spoke to last before her death.

A senior police officer said, “Banerjee had been depressed and out of work since March last year. We will be speaking to more of her close friends to try and establish what made her take this drastic step.”

Earlier in the day, soon after her parents arrived, Singh was brought to the hospital in a police car.

The post-mortem ended at 3.30 pm, and a large number of Banerjee’s colleagues in the television industry, who had been weeping and consoling her parents, were herded away as doctors prepared the report.

At 5 pm, Banerjee’s body was wheeled out on a gurney and placed on a stretcher which was laid on the ground and covered with a white sheet and flowers.

But even as the body was taken away in an ambulance and driven to a crematorium in Oshiwara, attracting a huge crowd of onlookers outside the hospital, Singh was questioned by the police in a room on the floor above the autopsy centre.

Actor Sahila Chadha, who was among the few to speak out in Singh’s support, was not allowed by the police to meet him. “I refuse. I refuse,” Bangur Nagar Senior Inspector Santosh Bhandare told Chaddha, as a tense stand-off ensued.

At 6.30 pm, the police drove Singh away and took him to the police station. Visibly scared and surrounded by cops, Singh did not answer any question.

Neeraj Gupta, a lawyer who has been roped in to represent Singh, dismissed talk of fights between the couple or of any financial trouble. “They were living their lives happily and there was no problem between them. Singh is cooperating with the police, and wants the truth to come out. He should not be declared a culprit at this stage. Let the police investigate the case and find out the reason behind the suicide,” he said.

Another officer said there were frequent quarrels between the couple but Banerjee’s family was aware of it.

Two months ago, Singh reportedly took Banerjee to Kolkata to the naming ceremony of his niece and introduced her to his family and got permission for their marriage.

Among the witnesses whose statements were recorded was the cook who entered the house on Friday. “The presence of an eyewitness at the discovery of the body rules out murder,” the officer said.

Late on Saturday, Singh’s father Harshvardhan Singh arrived at the police station.

He claimed that the couple was happy, and two months ago, had sought permission from him to get married.

Later, Rahul Raj Singh was allowed to leave Bangur Nagar police station a little before 11 pm.

Eye in the Sky Is the Quintessential Modern War Film

The war film is one of cinema’s most enduring genres; nearly every major conflict of the past century has been depicted on screen—multiple times. Films that wrestle with the rapidly changing nature of war, though, are rarer. As drone warfare continues its slow march into public consciousness, Eye in the Sky is the best movie yet to tackle the legal and moral quagmire surrounding modern technological warfare.

To do that, Eye in the Sky goes granular, telling the story of one particular mission on one particular day. In the movie, opening wide today, British colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) oversees a secret operation to capture a terrorist cell in Nairobi, Kenya. When the mission uncovers a more immediate threat than anticipated, though, the situation escalates. There’s no Normandy landing, no guns-and-mud Vietnam scene; there’s no pulling back, Syriana-style, to examine the context of the conflict. There’s just a British colonel, some American drone pilots, some undercover agents, and a smattering of government officials. Because that’s how international conflicts are resolved now—one clandestine move at a time.

Throughout its 102-minute runtime, Eye in the Sky raises many questions, from who has the authority to authorize force to whether minor casualties are an acceptable loss if they mean preventing an attack that kills thousands. And it depicts those questions as more than just thought experiments, but as things that stack and snarl, paralyzing decision makers who are playing by outdated rules of war.

In traditional military conflict, war was fought between nation-states, and the battlefield was the conflict zone. The problem we're in now is, what is the battlefield? It's less and less defined by geography and more and more defined by where that ideological enemy moves to. director Gavin Hood

The main argument within the film is whether the British government, aided by American drone technology, can go after its own citizens if those citizens are plotting an act of terrorism within the borders of a friendly country. For director Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Ender’s Game), that lack of clarity is the foundation of the film. “In traditional military conflict, war was fought between nation-states, and the battlefield was the conflict zone,” Hood says. “What is the battlefield now? It’s less and less defined by geography and more and more defined by where that ideological enemy moves to.”

Far-Flung Participants, Cutting-Edge Tech

Where war used to mean a devoted push into a geographical region, Eye in the Sky shows how conflict has become an almost Taskrabbit-like system: remote contract workers executing hyper-specific objectives. Powell has a team in England, and a team of government overseers, led by Lieutenant Colonel Frank Benson (Alan Rickman, in one of his final roles), watch from a separate situation room. Meanwhile, drone pilots Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) and Carrie Gershon (Phoebe Fox) are in Las Vegas. Powell enlists help from the American Geospatial Analysis Unit, which is stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to use facial recognition to confirm the identities of people captured in drone images. The powers-that-be also seek authorization from the US secretary of state on a diplomatic trip to China, the British foreign secretary, and the National Security Council at the White House. That’s at least eight locations, seven of which are operating thousands of miles away from the actual site.

There’s a lot of cutting-edge tech in Eye in the Sky, but Hood has no reservations about acknowledging the film will very quickly be out of date. Aside from the Reaper piloted by Watts, there’s a hummingbird drone—based on an actual piece of hardware—that does reconnaissance outside of a house, and an even smaller beetle drone, based on technology that has been commissioned and developed, but isn’t in the field yet.

The beetle isn’t entirely accurate, since it’s using a proprietary design based on developmental technology, but Hood spoke to the developers to find out what still needs to be worked on so Eye in the Sky could depict problems accurately. “It’s not the size of the cameras, or transmitting images, or even making something mechanical fly like an insect,” he says. “The problem is battery life. So we put that in the movie, because flight and transmitting high definition imagery sucks too much juice.”

Hood says he even had to cut back on depicting the current capabilities of these devices to help audiences process the events of the film. The beetle drone, for example, wouldn’t actually need help covertly landing inside a house. It has stereoscopic cameras that can map out a space, and then be directed to land itself to continue capturing surveillance information.

Even if Hood is right, and military technology makes his film feel dated within five years, Eye in the Sky is still one of the few war films attempting to depict modern warfare realistically. It’s not fetishizing spy technology, nor loudly proclaiming its pitfalls. And yes, ambiguity can be frustrating to watch, but shouldn’t it be? Nothing about drone war is simple, and being baffled by its problems is the point of Eye in the Sky—even if it is just political theater.

Barcelona v Real Madrid: El Clásico – live!

Over its 114-year history there have been many different types of clásico. There are finals with trophies on the line, games contorted into personal duals, infamous matches tainted by pig heads and José's fingers. And then there is the occasional ...

El Clasico Highlights: Real Madrid beats Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou

Late-game heroics that included a game-winning goal by Cristiano Ronaldo helped Real Madrid record a 2–1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Saturday evening. The result ends Barcelona's record unbeaten run of 39 games.

Gerard Pique broke the scoreless tie with a header in the 56th minute of the game, only to be answered by Karim Benzema moments later.

Barcelona had a few opportunities off of corner kicks before Pique finally found the net from about eight yards out, beating Pepe to the ball from Ivan Rakitic's corner.

The goal came just moments after Lionel Messi was robbed on a chip attempt by Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Peter Dinklage Hosts SNL: Tells Cecily Strong 'Summer Is Coming'

Peter Dinklage has apparently been having a blast with the buildup to tonight’s SNL appearance.

Dinklage has never hosted the show before, and is making the most of all the attention, including this promotional video with Cecily Strong, where he seems to build her up, but then adds, “Gwen Stefani is so fine.”

Stefani and Strong had some banter going on in the promos, according to Billboard.com, quoting the Lannisters from Game Of Thrones to the tune of Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” Dinklage is the adult in the room.

Stefani sets him up for the question everyone wants the answer to: “Is Jon Snow…”

She ends it with, “Single?”

Dinklage simply tolerates it all.

The Golden Globe and Emmy winning actor plays the beloved Tyrion Lannister on the HBO smash, Game of Thrones. Dinklage is a somber-appearing character, although quick to laugh and has an obvious rapier-like wit and intelligence. He is four feet six inches tall, according to an article in Esquire, and asking about his height is tricky. His response is quick.

“Uhm, how tall was Lincoln?….Well, he’s a much more important figure in history and humanity than I am. But we don’t know how tall he was exactly, do we?”

Dinklage was born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes abnormalities in bone formation. There was a one-in-twenty-five-thousand chance that he’d have it.

He calls New York home, but told Esquire he was outgrowing the hustle.

“I’m getting to that age where I love New York City, but I don’t call it a vacation anymore. It sort of drives me crazy.”

Dinklage 46, said that despite being born with an obvious difference from other kids, he had a pretty normal childhood just outside Morristown, New Jersey. His dad was an insurance salesman. His mom was a music teacher.

“They never acted like I was special. It was just who you are. You’re just a little bit more unique because you’re not like, you know, everyone else.”

Dinklage attended a Catholic high school, where he developed a friendship with an eccentric priest who loved films. It was there that he decided to become an actor.

“He showed me Fellini for the first time and all of Cassavetes. It sounds pretty pretentious to say you found, like, Antonioni at such an early age. But there you have it.”

After college, Dinklage worked for seven years for a company called Professional Examination Service.

“I still don’t know what the company did. But I just, like, plugged information into a computer. I stuck it out because they let me—it was goofy, I had a little cubicle, I made people laugh, I smoked cigs with the guys from the mail room. They didn’t seem to mind that I called in sick every Friday because I would go out Thursday night with my friends and get drunk.”

Like many thespians, he took to music and for awhile performed with a punk-funk-rap band called Whizzy. One night, he told Esquire, he was playing at CBGB.

“…jumping around onstage and got accidentally kneed in the temple. I was like Sid Vicious, just bleeding all over the stage. Blood was going everywhere. I just grabbed a dirty bar napkin and dabbed my head and went on with the show.”

He naturally fell in with a group of actors and indie filmmakers. His friend, screenwriter Tom McCarthy, wrote The Station Agent with Dinklage in mind. That was the film which became his breakout role.

It’s easy to see when briefly recapping his career, how hosting Saturday Night Live should be a breeze for this seasoned actor with his understated talent. One just wonders what took him so long to get there.

Peter Dinklage hosts SNL: Talk about it here

Winter is coming for Drunken Uncle alongside Bobby Moynihan on “Weekend Update.” But this is his first time handling the reins of the coveted hosting gig.

Game of Thrones has been a big point of parody for SNL in the past, like when Game of Game of Thrones.” But this time they’re working with a lot of material. Dinklage returns April 24 for the sixth season of the HBO series, which will address the fate of Jon Snow.

This weekend, Dinklage is joined on SNL by musical guest her first No. 1 solo album with This Is What the World Feels Like. She’s no stranger to Studio 8H, having performed on SNL both as a solo artist and as part of No Doubt.

Ovince Saint Preux replaces Daniel Cormier at UFC 197

Ovince Saint Preux for the UFC's interim title.

UFC president Dana White announced the matchup on SportsCenter. Jones, 28, was originally scheduled to fight defending champion withdrew because of a lower leg injury.

Jones (21-1) hasn't fought since he defeated Cormier via unanimous decision at UFC 182 in January 2015. The victory marked Jones' eighth consecutive title defense, a record for the 205-pound division.

He was scheduled to defend the title against Anthony Johnson in May but was arrested one month before the fight on a felony hit-and-run charge in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The UFC stripped Jones of the title shortly after his arrest. Jones eventually entered a plea agreement on the case and was sentenced to 18 months supervised probation.

Once Cormier withdrew from the event, the UFC initially turned to Johnson (21-1) as a replacement, but Johnson was unable to accept due to a recent medical procedure.

"Obviously, the No. 1 choice would be Anthony Johnson, who is the No. 2-ranked guy in the world and a fight that everybody wants to see," White said. "But Anthony Johnson just had surgery on his mouth and can't even put a mouthpiece in for at least three weeks."

That opened the door for Saint Preux (19-7), who is 7-2 in the UFC. A former college football player at Tennessee, Saint Preux, 32, is coming off a decision win over Rafael Cavalcante in February. He trains out of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Although Saint Preux doesn't carry the same history with Jones as Cormier, he is the UFC's sixth-ranked fighter in the weight class.

"The one thing we've learned in the 16 years in this business is you never know what's going to happen," White said. "Anything is possible when two guys get in there. Jon Jones and OSP have never faced off before. No. 1 versus No. 6. Two big, strong, athletic, explosive guys. Anything is possible."

Cormier (17-1) won the official title by submitting Johnson at UFC 187. He has recorded one successful defense, a split decision against Alexander Gustafsson in October.

In a statement to ESPN, Cormier said his recovery time is estimated at four to six weeks.

"The decision not to fight on April 23 was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make," Cormier said. "I've been scheduled to fight 18 times, and I have made that walk every time. I want to apologize to Jon Jones, Lorenzo Fertitta, Dana White and all of the UFC fans for not being able to defend my title.

"The recovery should not take very long, and I can't wait to compete and defend my title again. For all the fans, thanks for your support. I appreciate each and every one of you."

Unfortunately for Cormier, his inability to fight Jones will lead to him losing his belt. White explained on SportsCenter the decision to make Jones-Saint Preux an interim title fight.

"Thing is, Jon has never lost his title in the Octagon," White said. "He was stripped of his title because of problems outside. We think it's the right thing to do. It's not his fault that Cormier is injured so. He will fight for the interim light heavyweight title. When Cormier comes back, they'll decide who the real champ is."

North Carolina follows Justin Jackson's advice, finishes Syracuse in Final ...

HOUSTON -- Justin Jackson had just seen his teammate, Isaiah Hicks, clean up a miss that was so bad it looked like a pass, but he was hardly troubled by the aesthetics of his contribution. At the moment, he had more pressing concerns on his mind.

As Jackson retreated to the defensive end, he began to clap. Loudly.

"Hey!" Jackson screamed. His teammates turned briefly to see what the commotion was all about. When the sophomore forward was satisfied, he delivered his message:

"Finish it!" he screamed. Marcus Paige nodded his agreement.

"Finish!"

Jackson was referring to the final four minutes of the first half, but his message was just as relevant -- and the importance of its execution most obvious -- in the second. Facing a Syracuse team that got to the Final Four with a mind-bending double-digit second-half comeback against No. 1 seed Virginia, North Carolina, in its 83-66 win Saturday night, did what the Cavaliers couldn't. It finished.

Not that there weren't scares. By the 14:07 mark in the second half, when Paige delivered a gorgeous touch pass to an open Kennedy Meeks under the rim, UNC had turned its eight-point halftime lead into a 55-39 margin. Then, as the game neared the moment when Syracuse began to make Virginia crumble, the Orange found their verve: Trevor Cooney hit a 3 and followed it with a fast-break dunk off a Paige turnover. Malachi Richardson got to the rim. The lead was down to 10.

Roy Williams called a 30-second timeout. He ripped off his glasses and laid into his team, stomping and screaming, asking the Tar Heels if they were sure they wanted to win.

Then, after the break, Richardson -- sound familiar? -- hit a well-defended 3. Suddenly, the lead was down to just seven. Syracuse fans were roaring, and deja vu seemed to be rushing in.

But Paige answered with his own 3 one trip later. Williams pumped his fist and screamed again, but with a different message: "Let's play some ball!"

That is as good a description as any of what Carolina did the rest of the way, as it wheeled past Syracuse's formerly game-changing press, knocked down open shots, gobbled offensive rebounds, and shoveled the overmatched Orange so far down there was no way last weekend's unlikely comeback magic could sneak back to the surface again.

Carolina followed its coach's advice, and Jackson's. It played some ball. And it finished.

Barrymore, a California native, has been in the limelight since the age of 5, so balancing work and family isn't new. On top of being a mother, Barrymore is an actress, an entrepreneur – founding
Flower Beauty, an affordable cosmetic line, as well as a production company called Flower Films, and is a partner in Barrymore Wines – and an author. Her producing credits include Never Been Kissed, Charlie's Angels, How to Be Single and the upcoming Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet.

Barrymore was one of the highest paid actresses of the early 2000s, earning $10 million paychecks for starring in films like 50 First Dates. Prior to launching Flower Beauty, she was a spokesperson and co-creative director for Cover Girl for 7 years. In 2013, Forbes estimated Barrymore's net worth to be $125 million. Since then, however, the actress launched her beauty line and her wine company, adding to that figure.

When they were living together, the couple divided their time between their Upper East Side pad which was listed at $8.3 million before Barrymore purchased it, and their L.A. home, which was featured in Architectural Digest.

In 2013, Barrymore sold her home in Santa Barbara for $6.35 million, just a year after the couple got married.

The property, which Barrymore bought in 2010 for $5.7 million, served as the setting for her intimate wedding to Kopelman in 2012.

12 secrets we learned from Star Wars: The Force Awakens' special features

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters, movie fans and Star Wars lore hunters have been combing the film, pulling out every bit of information they could. With the release of the digital home edition, we get an even closer look at the latest entry in the Star Wars series.

Even if there aren't any clues as to what might happen in the future episodes and movies to follow, the digital edition's special features surfaced plenty of interesting facts about the production of the movie and the new Star Wars universe. We've gathered some of the most interesting bits we learned from watching the special features and deleted scenes below, but beware, there are SPOILERS to The Force Awakens in this article.

Finn Refuses to kill an innocent villager on Jakku

Finn's personal conflict with killing the locals in the stormtrooper assault of the Jakku village gets a bit more screentime in a deleted scene. The hero comes across a female villager alone, paralyzed by fear, but Finn, still traumatized by the death of his buddy (the bloody handprint can be seen on his helmet), refuses to capture or kill her and eventually lets the villager go.

Captain Phasma isn't the only female stormtrooper

For being an army of soulless, oppressive killers, the stormtroopers sure are a diverse, equal opportunity group. You might not know it, but several of the stormtroopers are women. It isn't immediately apparent because the female armor is exactly the same as the male armor. It isn't feminised. But that fact also sends a powerful message: that no matter who the person is underneath, the stormtrooper armor wipes away everything about that person's individuality.

There were multiple versions of BB-8 on set

BB-8 was probably one of the more complex characters to put in the movie because, well, it's a tiny, rolling robot. You can't exactly stick a person inside of it to control and act for it. In order to have it function on camera, the production crew created multiple versions of the little droid ball for the many different environments and situations BB-8 would be involved in. Everything from a fully controllable puppet and fully remote controlled droid, to a lightweight plastic version that the actors could carry.

Poe was set to die in the original script

The new trio of heroes: Rey, Finn and Poe might have been a duo if it wasn't for a script change. Poe was going to die early on in the story, but it didn't happen because actor Oscar Isaac wasn't too happy about it. Director JJ Abrams said that Isaac was tired of his characters dying off in his more recent movies and asked that they keep him alive. So, the script was changed.

The holochess hasn't been turned on since A New Hope

It seems that the Millennium Falcon's holochess board that Finn accidentally switched on hadn't be used in over three decades. The pieces are all left in the same places where R2-D2 and Chewie left them just before the crew discovered a destroyed Alderaan in A New Hope.

Rey and Finn had a speeder chase scene

Finn gets to show off his stormtrooper-trained blaster rifle skills in a deleted scene on the snowy surface of Starkiller base. Without any explanation, Rey and Finn are shown driving a speeder being chased by stormtroopers in a similar vehicle. Finn tells Rey to take over the wheel, then takes his blaster rifle, and shoots a stormtrooper causing the speeder to crash and explode.

The lightsaber props glow like real lightsabers

The lightsaber combat props used in the previous movies just had metal rods coming out of the lightsaber hilts, to which the glowing blades were added later. In the Force Awakens, the lightsaber props have glowing blades and flash white at particular moments, like when the lightsabers clash together. It looks as if the actors are fighting with the Force FX lightsabers you can find in the toy aisle at a department store.

Maz Kanata was supposed to be at the Resistance base

In the behind-the-scenes clips, Lupita Nyong'o, the actress who plays Maz, is shown kneeling near the other actors as they view the map to Luke Skywalker. But it seems she was cut from the scene in the final version as we never get to see Maz at the Resistance base at all in the movie.

Han still has his dice

You might never have noticed this little piece of the scenery, but throughout the original trilogy, a pair of dice hung in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Seriously, go look. Well, a reference to this little detail was cut from The Force Awakens. The cut scene showed Han pulling the dice from his pocket and hanging them up in the cockpit as the smuggler and his furry friend made their long-awaited return to the Falcon.

Kylo Ren knows Han Solo is on Starkiller Base before the bridge scene

As Han, Chewie, and Finn shut down Starkiller Base's defensive shield, Kylo Ren and a group of Snowtroopers find the Millennium Falcon crashed in the snow, learning that Han is nearby. The villains board the ship, only to find it abandoned. As the dark jedi exits the ship he discovers that the Resistance is attacking Starkiller Base. The scene doesn't add much to the story, but it's a cool callback to Vader investigating the Falcon on the Death Star.

The snowy forest scene had a painted backdrop

If you thought that the lightsaber fight between Kylo, Finn, and Rey took place in a real, snowy forest, you got tricked by an amazing, but old school-style movie set. The crew brought in real trees and fake snow to build the set, and a painted backdrop was hung in the background to make it look like the forest went on forever.

Luke is conflicted when he sees Rey

Luke may not have said a word in The Force Awakens, but his face was meant to say a lot. Mark Hamill says that at Rey and Luke's meeting at the end of the movie, Luke is conflicted about training the new force-sensitive hero holding his father's lightsaber. And he probably should be. The last time he took on pupils, they were all murdered by Kylo Ren, leaving him to live with those deaths on his conscious.

There's as much as an hour of unused 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens" footage we ...

zuvio star warsLucasfilm

The April 5 release of the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Blu-ray will include seven deleted scenes in addition to hours of behind the scenes footage. But according to Neal Scanlan, the puppet master who oversaw the design of many of the creatures and aliens in the film, there's much more unreleased footage you won't see on the home release.

In an interview with Nerdist, Scanlan revealed that director J.J. Abrams filmed much more footage than what viewers see on film or on the Blu-ray.

Via Nerdist:

Scanlan believes there could be a cut of the film an hour longer that would work, and that he would love to watch. He calls the theatrical cut “so fine to the wire” in the way it hit the allotted running time while keeping as much of the good stuff as possible.

Director J.J. Abrams has said there are no plans for an extended cut of "The Force Awakens," but Scanlan told Nerdist that the opening scenes in Jakku alone had multiple characters cut.

“There was an awful lot of stuff that we shot,” Scanlan says. “Background stuff. Things that are happening in Jakku in the background, in the desert, and all of those things. And sometimes the roll of dice is in order to tell the story the way that they need to tell it, and J.J. wanted to tell it. Some things there just isn’t the screen time for them. So he exists on film somewhere. Whether we’ll ever see him, who knows?”

Among the deleted material is Constable Zuvio, a peacekeeper living in Jakku. There was even a toy released of Zuvio and Lucasfilm went as far as to cast, costume, and film scenes in Morocco with the character.

According to StarWars.com, Zuvio is described as the leader of Niima Outpost's militia who are supposed to protect visitor starships from locals and thieves.

No official word on when or if we'll ever see the characters and costumes that didn't make the film. But with four more film set in the "Star Wars" universe over the next few years, maybe the ideas will be used by future directors.

9 reasons the Celtics snapped Golden State's 54-game home win streak

It’s not an April Fools’ joke, though watching it, I couldn’t really believe my eyes.

The Boston Celtics stunned the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, beating them 109-106 and ending the Warriors’ 54-game home win streak.

You’re probably asking right now: Wait, how did an undermanned Celtics team (they were missing Jae Crowder) beat the best basketball team in recent history? There were a lot of factors, but here were some big keys —

1. Avery Bradley made life difficult for Stephen Curry

The Celtics threw a lot of different looks at league MVP Stephen Curry — including moments with Evan Turner on him, double teams, and, at one memorable moment, having the entire team defend him.

They found their best success with Avery Bradley on him, however. Bradley hounded Curry off ball, making it difficult for him to get into his motion sets. His teammates helped him by bumping Curry off screens, and generally making his life difficult. Curry opened up in the second half — he’s the best player alive for a reason — but the Celtics were able to stay in the game because Bradley is a great defender and harried Curry for much of the first half.

2. Stephen Curry also took some time to get in the game

In the first quarter especially you could see Curry struggling with the physicality of Bradley and Turner and Marcus Smart. For much of the first quarter, he seemed content to find his teammates, or just struggled to even get the ball in his hands.

Curry didn’t score a basket until the closing seconds of the first quarter. He finished with 29 and was by far the best player on the floor, but that quarter he took getting adjusted allowed the Celtics to stay in it, and find some belief.

3. Klay Thompson struggled as well

The Celtics made their plan clear — they were going to make life hard off the ball for Curry and Thompson and let the other players on the Warriors be the ones to beat them. Thompson had no baskets in the first quarter, struggling just as Curry did with the constant harassment and attention off the ball.

Unlike Curry, he never really got it going — finishing with 15 points on 6 for 16 shooting and 2 of 6 beyond the arc. Not awful numbers, but the Warriors needed a bit more from him.

4. Isaiah Thomas is a bad, bad man

Thomas may stand just 5-foot-9, but as you watched the game you got the sense that it was turning into a straight man-off between the diminutive Celtics guard and the Warriors’ emotional center Draymond Green. Both were whooping it up after baskets, screaming at their teammates, and neither seemed willing to back down from everything.

This is funny with Thomas because, again, he’s 5-foot-9. But he refused to back down, and his ability to get past his man and repeatedly get into the paint made life extremely difficult for the Warriors. The Celtics’ offense wasn’t as pretty as the Warriors’ was by any stretch of the imagination, but again and again Thomas got into the paint and made the right decision. He finished with 22 points and six assists.

5. Marcus Smart didn’t back down from the moment

The Celtics hung tough with the Warriors in a thrilling third quarter that saw Stephen Curry turn into a human fireball, and somehow the Celtics returning every punch. To kick off the fourth quarter, the Celtics landed a surprising blow when Marcus Smart got a few mismatches on Mareese Speights and didn’t hesitate. On the first he attacked the basket and laid in a wonky runner.

He followed that up with a three-pointer in the big man’s face.

The two buckets grew the Celtics’ lead, and you could see the team really starting to believe.

6. Evan Turner had one of his best games ever

Turner is a player who is not quite what most modern NBA teams are looking for. He can’t really shoot the three. He loves a good mid-range jumper, the inefficient shot that is that antithesis of all that is NBA gospel right now. And yet that weird mid-range game he loves so well was devastating for the Warriors. The Celtics kept working the ball around, forcing switches until Turner had someone he felt comfortable posting up. He finished 8-13 from the field for 21 points, and tacked on 5 assists and 5 rebounds.

The Warriors’ offense is one of the most beautiful things in sports, but there is a way to disrupt it — you turn the game ugly. The Celtics did that. They hung guys up on screens, dove after loose balls, banged bodies in the post.

As soon as the game got the feeling of that playoff atmosphere, the refs more or less put the whistles away … just what the Celtics wanted.

8. Brad Stevens is an incredible coach

This is the long and the short of it — Brad Stevens had a perfect game plan and the Celtics executed it perfectly.

They hounded the Warriors off the ball, refusing to let them get into their sets. They took the shots the Warriors gave them, even if they weren’t pretty. The Celtics moved the ball exceptionally well and found the right pass time and time again.

He took this starting lineup …

… and beat the defending champions on their court. That is stunning.

He did it by taking advantage of all the things listed above, but also by instilling in the Celtics a sense of belief that they belonged on the floor with this team and that they deserved to win the game.

Now, for the huge caveat —

The Warriors are still the best team in the NBA. The Celtics played a near-perfect game and were a rimmed-out Stephen Curry three from having that game go to overtime. The Warriors were missing Festus Ezili and Andre Iguodala. If the Celtics somehow claw their way out of the Eastern Conference and meet the Warriors in the NBA Finals, the Warriors probably win in five.

But the Celtics did show that there is a way to beat this Warriors team. You have to be willing to get ugly, to take mid-range shots, and to work your tail off on defense. And you need a little luck.

Actually, yeah, that’s number 9 on this list.

9. The Celtics got a bit lucky

The Warriors uncharacteristically turned the ball over a few times down the stretch. They don’t usually do that. The Celtics hit some weird floaters and got a few non-calls and had bouncing balls break their way.

But for a team like the Celtics to stun the Warriors in Oakland, they needed a little luck. Any team does. That shouldn’t take away from what they accomplished.
